Disease myopia, how to prevent myopia, treatment and symptoms of myopia

Myopia

Myopia is a condition where the vision outlined for the first time by Aristotle (384-322 BC. JC) a myopic blur seen by far, and next to the visual defect, myopia some abnormalities are accompanied by more or less serious the retina.

Definition.

It speaks of myopia if the image of distant objects is formed in front of the retina. The importance of myopia varies eyes.

In near vision, there is a distance at which a myopic sees net and without effort. If myopia is important, this distance is reduced. This is why some people very nearsighted read a few inches of text.

We know the different causes of myopia.

Either the eye is “too long” (a look “normal” has a length of 23mm). This is the case in congenital glaucoma. This rare disease can reach children at birth. Because of increased pressure in the eye, the eye grows too quickly and becomes fragile. Without treatment, the evolution is toward blindness. It should make the diagnosis as soon as possible. Sleep of the Child: Plants to the rescue

Sleep of the Child: Plants to the rescue

Your child is nervous, agitated, bedtime is a test, he has trouble falling asleep and spend a quiet night? Try some natural solutions offered by plants: aromatherapy, herbal medicine or homeopathy, there are many who a bear fruit! Especially as the light of insomnia in adults can also be resolved through the soothing properties of some plant species.

Side of aromatherapy.

Some essential oils have proven their effectiveness for calming restless children and prepare them to sleep. Essential oils of fine lavender, mandarin orange or sweet spread in the air in the chamber, 10 to 15 minutes before bedtime, is an easy to implement (provided you have a diffuser ), and well accepted in children. You can supplement with a few drops of gasoline chosen directly on the pillow.

Each evening, apply 3 to 4 drops of the mixture on the skin at the solar plexus, the spine, inside of wrists and arch. Massage lightly until absorbed. (more…)

Pelvic Endometriosis

Pelvic Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common disease (there are more than 1 million cases in the U.S. alone), which can affect any woman of childbearing age, since the first menstruation or menarche to menopause, but sometimes lasts until after the menopause.

The disease impairs quality of life of women with the disease, their relationships, family and even work. His symptoms characterizing mainly by what is known as the three Ds: Dysmenorrheal,
dyspareunia (painful intercourse) and more commonly, pelvic pain, especially in the lower abdomen, in the lower back and pelvis itself. There may also be hyper menorrhea or very abundant menstrual bleeding and even inter-menstrual.

For these women at once becomes difficult or impossible to become pregnant, and often have intestinal disorders including diarrhea, constipation, painful bowel movements or cramps. And feel tired.

Achieving determine the diagnosis for endometriosis is difficult, hence the need to perform one or more tests, including a pelvic ultrasound or MRI. Laparoscopy may be necessary to review the bodies inside and view any or entopic endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Laparoscopy shows the location and extent of endometrial lesions, which are then biopsies. (more…)

What are allergies?

What are allergies?

What are allergies?

An allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a substance that is harmless for most people. But in an allergic person, the immune system treats the substance (called an allergen) as an invader and reacts inappropriately, causing symptoms that can range from mild discomfort to problems that may endanger the life of the person.

The immune system of an allergic person, in an attempt to protect the body against what it perceives as a threat, it produces antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE) against the allergen. In turn, these antibodies cause cells called mast cells to release certain chemicals, including histamine, into the bloodstream to defend against the allergen “invader.”

It is the release of these chemicals that cause allergic reactions, which affect the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin and gastrointestinal tract. The subsequent exposure to the allergen (substances such as pollen or nuts) will trigger the same allergic reaction. This means that whenever the person is exposed or that allergen, is eating a particular food or by touching or breathing in a substance, submit an allergic reaction. (more…)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) height=

Irritable Bowel Syndrome absolutely affects the quality of life of a person, i.e. integrally affects, and is especially dangerous because it can be confused with more serious illnesses. Before it was called irritable colon, but experts have sought to give the term more accurately after discovering that it is a general inflammation of the intestine, including the colon. The most common symptom is pain in the abdomen, associated with changes in the patient’s stool patterns, or whether the person may have constipation or diarrhea. Also often a strained stomach, which in simple words is just inflator in the stomach.

At the same time, the patient may suffer from migraine headaches, body aches and general tiredness, so that the syndrome can “throw” the patient, as popularly said. (more…)

Watch your heart

Watch your heart

Myocardial infarction (there are other types of strokes, as the brain, for example) is the result of obstruction of blood flow in the arteries that nourish the heart and causes death and dysfunction of the tissue that is supplied by that artery, in other words, you lose the function of contraction and the pumping capacity of a part of the heart where the artery is occluded. Is always accompanied by a sharp chest pain that often can be confused with other things because the pain is located very near the base of the sternum and can be confused with gastric or biliary colic.

May also occur in the neck radiating pain in the lower jaw and this is also often confused with other symptoms, while the statistics say that 10% to 20% of people who have suffered myocardial infarction have confused initially with another disease.

Given these symptoms so ambiguous, it is useful to know how to recognize it.

Chest pain of high intensity, a sense of oppression comparable to having a brick in the chest, dizziness and sweating are reasons to go quickly to an emergency department, where he underwent two tests that determine whether or not the heart the cause of the symptoms. These tests are an electrocardiogram (a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart) and blood tests, which accompanied the patient what you tell your doctor determine exactly whether or not myocardial infarction.

The reason to go as soon as possible to an emergency department is that the sooner treatment is started, which now ranges from drugs that liquefy the clots that are clogging the arteries to open them literally or angioplasty catheters, more amount infarction can be saved and more deaths are preventable. The symptoms of schizophrenia

The symptoms of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a major personality disorder, a distortion of thought. Those who suffer often have the feeling of being controlled by alien forces. They have delusions that they can be extravagant, with impaired perception, abnormal affect unrelated to the situation and understand autism as insulation.

The deterioration of mental function in these patients has reached a degree which markedly interferes with their ability to meet some ordinary demands of life and maintain adequate contact with reality. The psychotic does not live in this world (dissociation between reality and their world), since there is a denial of reality unconsciously. He is unaware of their disease.

Schizophrenic cognitive activity is not normal, there are inconsistencies, disconnections and there is great impact on language, for not thinking or reasoning as normal.

The onset of the disease may be acute, i.e. you can start from one moment to another with a crisis delirious, manic state, a depressive with psychotic content or a confused state of dreaming. You can also arise insidiously and progressively.

The average age of onset in men between 15 and 25 years and women aged 25 to 35 years. However, may appear before or after, although it is rare that arises before age 10 or after 50 Amos’s.

Symptoms of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia may have a variety of symptoms. Usually, the disease develops slowly over months or even years. (more…)

Treatment of osteoporosis

Treatment of osteoporosis

The main causes are a drop in estrogen levels in women during menopause and decreased testosterone in men. Women, especially those over 50, get osteoporosis more often than men.

Researchers estimate that about 20% of American women over age 50 have osteoporosis and 30% have osteopenia (low bone density abnormal) that may eventually lead to osteoporosis if not treated. From these figures, researchers estimate that 50% of women over age 50 will suffer a hip fracture, wrist, or vertebra (bones of the spine).

White women, especially those with a family history of osteoporosis, have a higher than average risk of developing the disease. Also, are identified as risk factors: cigarette smoking, the eating disorders, low body weight, low calcium diet, high alcohol consumption, early menopause, absence of menstrual periods (amenorrhea) and the use of certain medications such as steroids and anticonvulsants.

The treatment of all types of osteoporosis include calcium supplements and vitamin D, an exercise program appropriate for the patient, change in lifestyle to reduce risk factors and medications.

Medicines.

* Bisphosphonates: alendronate, risedronate, ibandronate
* Hormone replacement therapy: estrogen, estrogen-gestagen
* Tibolone
* Raloxifene
* Calcitonin
* Vitamin D, Vitamin D3 activates

Choosing a drug requires the patient characteristics, disease and our goals in the management of this disease. We can say that based on evidence based medicine there are some recommendations.

Bisphosphonates: These are first-line medicine in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis prevention and treatment of steroid-induced osteoporosis and osteoporosis in men. (more…)

Alzheimers disease

Alzheimers disease

Some studies suggest that these medicines among which include aspirin and ibuprofen may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease or at least delay its onset.

Mental exercise – there is evidence that people who regularly exercise their minds are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease than those who do not. When referring to exercise the mind, we refer to various activities. One study found that people who play chess regularly develop Alzheimer’s disease less frequently than other people. Have been found to solve crossword puzzles also has an inverse relationship with Alzheimer’s disease, that is, the more you practice this activity the lower the likelihood of developing this condition. Other studies conducted in animals appear to show that there are environmental stimuli that increase the growth of neurons and brain weight. The stimuli that achieve this are complex stimuli. It should be noted that there are scholars who call into question these mental benefits of exercise.

The apple juice consumption may protect against Alzheimer’s.

According to a study in laboratory animals apple juice consumption reduces the formation of beta amyloid plaques associated with neurodegerativas diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Were fed normal mice and mice genetically engineered to be deficient in apoE protein, which promotes the formation of plaques, with complete and deficient diets lead to degeneration and in groups with and without apple juice dissolved in water.

In all cases, mice supplemented with apple juice showed reduced formation of beta-amyloid plaques, but not enough to offset the increases resulting from the genetic predisposition of the apoE protein deficiency.

New hope for obesity and diabetes

New hope for obesity and diabetes

An announcement from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), United States, proposed the “Genetic Studies Program and Nutrition”, which aims to prepare researchers to be introduced in all aspects of obesity and diabetes.

Simin Liu, co-director of the program and professor of epidemiology and medicine at UCLA, said the academic project “includes aspects ranging from chemical biology to population analysis, thus give a broad and deep understanding of epidemics.

One reason that the initiative argues, is that obesity and diabetes – as a consequence of the first – is having a high incidence of most cardiovascular events, which have increased four times a diabetic cases.

Therefore, Liu believes that if these trends continue, the children born in the United States early this century, unless your parents live.

The program uses a holistic approach to the discipline of molecular epidemiology and field of metabolic diseases, and its mission is to get the best number of scientists, researchers and laboratory population to make a comprehensive study on the impact of genes and their interactions with behavior, nutrition and environment in disease epidemics.

Moreover, a recent study by UCLA documented that 21% of California teenagers, whose families are low income, are obese and unhealthy eating habits. (more…)
